Achieving Even Application of Screen Coating

Achieving Even Application of Screen Coating

Problem: A manufacturer producing coated screens for residential and industrial windows relied on air operated double diaphragm (AODD) pumps to deliver coating material to their screen coating machines. However, pulsations generated by the pumps caused the spray nozzles to apply an uneven coating across the screens.

This inconsistency led to quality issues and required re coating, increasing both material waste and production time. Compounding the challenge, the existing equipment layout provided no vertical installation space for a traditional pulsation dampener.

Reliable Rosin Size Dosing

Reliable Rosin Size Dosing

Problem: A pulp and paper facility required highly accurate and reliable rosin size dosing as part of its pulp treatment process. The application demanded precise chemical control to ensure consistent paper quality, while also providing uninterrupted operation in the event of pump maintenance or failure.

Given the critical nature of rosin sizing, the customer needed a fully integrated dosing system that could deliver accuracy and reliability throughout continuous operation.

Pump Inlet Cavitation in Power Gen Facility

Pump Inlet Cavitation in Power Gen Facility

Problem: A power generation facility operating an industrial water system experienced recurring cavitation and dry running events on a reciprocating metering pump supplying deionized water.

The pump was fed from a large, elevated vertical supply tank with approximately 200 feet of suction piping, and from a static design perspective, the system appeared more than adequate. There was ample static head, no obvious restrictions, and a properly sized tank.

Despite this, the pump exhibited noise, instability, and signs of incomplete liquid end filling creating concern about accelerated wear and potential equipment damage. The operating team struggled to reconcile these issues with what seemed like “plenty of inlet pressure.”

Deionized Water Dosing in R&D Lab

Deionized Water Dosing in R&D Lab

Problem: As it is a system with 8 units, the deionized water requirement can range from one unit at a time to all 8 simultaneously. The pump pulse was damaging the flow sensors, and the pressurized line was disrupting the solenoid valve cycle. When the water requirement was low or from only one unit, the pump tended to shut down.

Pulsation in Sulfuric Acid Feed

Pulsation in Sulfuric Acid Feed

Problem: MID South Wire Co., Inc. in Nashville, TN uses Yamada Air Operated Double Diaphragm Pumps to supply the feed of sulfuric acid to the centrifuge which is a continuous process and requires as smooth and even a flow rate as possible. The double diaphragm pump was giving good service, but the customer either had to change out the pump for one with continuous flow or find a solution for the pulsation.

Deep Well Injection

Deep Well Injection

Problem: Hydroplex HP-350 triplex plunger pump (0.75 gpm at 10,000 psi) for high pressure deep well methanol injection in an oil & gas upstream pumping application. On the discharge side of the pump, the amount of methanol the pump is dosing is metered. Without a dampener to control pulsations and smooth out the flow, the installed flow meters will not give accurate readings. Additionally, when using a triplex pump it is important that all three chambers of the pump stay full of fluid with no voids. Any voids or pockets can cause seals to leak, pump vibration and excess pump noise.
