When the inlet pressure is enough to create the possibility of liquid syphoning through the failed pump diaphragm and out the pump’s exhaust, it may be necessary to install a second SPILLSTOP shutoff valve.

Pump shutoff valves automatically shut down the pump in the event of a diaphragm failure. Multiple smaller AODD pumps (1/2” or 1” models) can be protected by a single SPILLSTOP by routing all of their exhausts through a single SPILLSTOP and adding additional shutoff valves for each pump. Also, it is possible to do this with larger AODD pumps, but they may experience a significant reduction in flow due to the restriction added to the pump exhaust.
Two (2) shutoff valves are recommended for high suction tank or positive flooded suction applications to stop liquid in the tank from flowing through the pump's inlet when the pump stops.
